Noah's Story

Chapter 3: Boston Children's Hospital (7 West)

On 06/14/17, Noah and Mommy left Dartmouth around 6:30pm and arrived in Boston around 9pm.

That night, we got settled in our new "home away from home" - Room 710-B (a shared room) on Floor 7 West. The next day (06/15/17) began a whirlwind of activity. It was an exhausting day - mentally, emotionally, and physically - because all the doctors and teams all wanted to meet Noah, to review each part of his case that they would be taking care of, and of course to take a quick look at him with their stethoscope. There was very little rest for both of us that day.

The next few weeks were spent re-running some of the tests that were done at Dartmouth and trying to get Noah as "healthy" as possible before the transplant procedure. This included getting his Calcium levels up and stable, adding a PICC line in his arm to make bloodwork easier, getting him to put on some more weight (adding his first NG-Tube), blood transfusions, a hearing test, MRI, ECG/EKG, and getting Physical Therapy & Occupational Therapy added to his teams.

Overall, we spent about 4 or 5 weeks on this floor and Noah became known as the "King of 7 West." We had to wait for genetic testing, to make sure Noah's body could accept the transplant. Once we had that test result and he was healthy/stable enough, he had surgery to add a Central Line (CVL) in his chest, and then he was transferred to 6 West (the Transplant Floor) on 07/18/17.
